His academic capstone is an impressive lineup: A B.Eng. in Electronics, an M.Eng in Electrical, a Ph.D. in Energy Studies, and an MBA in Finance & Accounting. His status as a Chartered Electrical Engineer since 1994 is fortified with affiliations to engineering's crème de la crème, including the Nigerian Society of Engineers and the Institution of Electrical Engineers, UK. Dr. Gobir has served as a Senator from 2011 to 2023, holding the esteemed position of Majority Leader of the Senate in the 9th National Assembly. While Senator Gobir's leadership shines in the business sector, serving as the Managing Director and CEO of Cement Company of Northern Nigeria Plc to holding directorial positions in prominent companies like Union Bank of Nigeria and Total Nigeria PLC, his influence in politics and governance is undeniable.

Senator Gobir is a recipient of the Best Engineer Award by NTA Sokoto and the National Honours Award of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR).
