The Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, has commended the Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole for his prompt response to the request of the Commission for a parcel of land in Benin City for the building of its new state office.
Making the commendation yesterday in the Edo State capital as she began a two-day inspection of NDDC projects in the state, Mrs. Semenitari said she was delighted that the governor approved two hectares of land for the Commission to build its offices.
“This is truly commendable,” Mrs. Semenitari said. “His Excellency Governor Oshiomhole has demonstrated commitment to supporting NDDC in achieving its Mandate of facilitating the development in the region. This is the kind of support and partnership that we have been advocating in ensuring that we all work together to improve the lives of our people.
She added: “As a result, we are going to optimize the space available. It is a lot of space for us to build just a state office. So we are going to look into building other structures that will enhance the performance of NDDC.”
The NDDC boss, who inspected the land in the company of other directors of the Commission, said that the Commission might consider building a training school or some other facility that could be beneficial to the people of Niger Delta.
She stated that the existing design for the state office may have to be reviewed to accommodate training school and directed the Commission’s Design Department to immediately work out options for the optimal utilization of the land.
The NDDC Director Design Department, Mr. Ukeme Nkamare, explained that the designs for the Commission’s offices in its nine mandate states were adapted to meet the various needs of each state. He said that Edo State office would take full advantage of the available space at the site.
The NDDC boss had led directors of the Commission to pay a courtesy call on Governor Oshiomhole, at the Government House, Benin City on February 17, 2016, where she requested for a conducive office accommodation, stating that the core duty of the NDDC lay in the states and the communities.
