The traditional ruler of Ugbonla in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, Oba Henry Ogunfeyimi, has commended the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, for bringing life back to his community through the provision of key infrastructure. He was speaking when the NDDC Managing Director, Sir (Barr) Bassey Dan-Abia, led other top officials of the commission to pay him a courtesy visit at his palace on Friday.
The Oba expressed delight that the NDDC had raised the status of Ugbonla and made it to stand out as far as basic infrastructure was concerned. He said he was particularly impressed by the quality of the 3-kilometre Ugbonla township road which he said had become a model for other rural communities.
“We thank the NDDC for giving us the necessary amenities that are now attracting our people to come back home. We are particularly grateful for the internal roads and the solar-powered street lights,” the Oba said.
The NDDC Chief Executive Officer told the Oba that he was on an inspection tour of the commission’s projects in Ilaje Local Government Area in compliance with a presidential directive. He said: “When the present board was inaugurated over one year ago, we were directed by the President to complete all on-going projects before embarking on new ones. We have been doing our best to adhere to that directive and it is in the interest of Niger Delta people that we complete projects that have taken off before adding new ones.”
He said that the commission found it necessary to start this year with an inspection of projects in Ondo State. “You cannot plant crops and fail to visit the farm to see whether it needs weeding. That is why we have come to see the projects in Ilaje. I am pleased with what I have seen today,” he said.
Introducing the NDDC Boss to the Oba, Barr. Benson Amuwa, the representative of Ondo State on the NDDC Governing Board, said that the Ugbonla community had good reasons to be grateful to the current leadership of the interventionist agency. He noted that it was the current Board that revived the multi-billion naira Ugbo-Oghoye road and bridges that is currently on-going.
