The Niger Delta Development Commission has acquired 40 fire trucks for distribution to the nine Niger Delta States.
Speaking, while inspecting some of the trucks at the Akwa Ibom State Fire Service, the Acting Managing Director Dr. Mrs. Christy Atako pointed out that the intervention was to assist the states in combating incidents of fire outbreak.
She said that the NDDC will always work in synergy with the state governments and other agencies in addressing the development needs of the Niger Delta region.
Dr. Atako explained that the visit was informed by the need for the commission to confirm if the right truck were delivered to the states.
”NDDC has a standard, and therefore makes sure that all its facilities, projects and programmes are done according to specification”.
Dr. Atako said that though the trucks were yet to be formally handed over to the state governments but urged officials of the fire service to ensure that they were properly maintained.
According to her, the trucks comprise water tankers of 30,000 litre capacity, turn table fire truck with a combination of water, dry chemicals and carbondioxiode.
Conducting the Acting Managing Director round the trucks the Director Akwa Ibom State Fire Service, Mrs. Gwindolen Sunday Ukpe thanked the NDDC for the gesture.
