The contractor handling the Akenfa-Gbarain bridge project embarked upon by the NDDC in Bayelsa State has been summoned to the Commission’s Headquarters to give reasons why he stopped work on the project. Just as the Commission is fastracking the completion of Ogbia-Nembe road.
The Acting Managing Director Dr. (Mrs.). Christy Atako handed down the order when she paid an unscheduled visit to the project site. “From the consultant’s brief, we do not owe the contractor, there are even no community issues, so there is no reason why he should stop work”.
Dr. Atako who described the project as very important to the Commission noted that linking the two communities with a bridge will promote both commerce and social life between the people. “We are careful in our choice of projects, we take the people into confidence, we ask them to identify their need, and these two communities requested for this project, it is dear to both the NDDC and the people, it must be completed”.
At the Ogbia-Nembe road, the NDDC Boss told the contractor to expedite action on the project to make the dreams of the Commission and its partners on the road come true.
She also stressed the need for the contractor to engage the youths, pointing out that apart from the physical infrastructure, NDDC projects were also to create job opportunities for the benefiting communities.
