An eighty (80) number solar powered street light project embarked upon by the NDDC in Umuorie, an oil bearing community in Ukwa West, Abia state has been commissioned.
The project covers a distance of 200 meters with each solar light spaced to an area distance of 20 meters apart.
Each of the solar light comprises of 210w double solar panel, eight meter single galvanized poles with battery box panel plates and hold down bolts.
The NDDC Acting Managing Director/CEO, Dr Christy Atako who commissioned the project also commissioned the Umuorie internal roads covering a distance of 2.9km.
Dr Atako restated the commitment of the commission towards the development of the Niger Delta as evidenced by the numerous projects embarked upon by the NDDC across the region. She hoped that both the road and the solar street light will improve both the economic and social well being of the people of the area.
She called on the people to ensure that the facilities were protected and maintained to achieve the desired goal.
Also speaking, the Abia State Representative on the board of the NDDC Barrister Aloysius Nwagboso commended the Commission for the projects and enjoined the people to shun all forms of restiveness in order to attract more development projects to the community.
Mr Anietie Usen, the Director NDDC office, Abia state commended the vision of the Acting MD/CEO pointing out that Dr Atako has recorded several achievements within so short a period.
Meanwhile another 2.9km road project with concrete drains and ring culverts embarked upon by the commission in Obiga Asa also in Ukwa West was also commissioned.
