Barely one week after the inauguration of the Odi-Trofani Road and other key development projects across Bayelsa State, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has inaugurated eight more road projects in Sagbama, Ekeremor, Ogbia and Southern Ijaw Local Government Areas of the State.
The concrete roads lined with drainages, include the Arere Road in Ikebiri, the Korobiri-Ogumain Polo-Adagbe-Opubri road in Oporoma and the Angiama internal roads.
Others are the Tungbabiri internal roads, rigid pavement in Adagbabiri, Oloibiri internal roads and Aleibiri concrete roads.
Inaugurating the projects, NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Christian Oboh told the various communities that the Commission will continue to execute projects that would positively impact on the lives of the rural people.
Represented by Edi Orubo, Bayelsa State representative on the Board of the NDDC, he charged the community leaders to ensure that peace reigned in their area since without peace, development would be elusive.
“I urge every one of you to keep the peace in order to assist government in the task of spreading development in our region”, he said.
The communities in their separate responses thanked the Commission for the gesture.
At Oporoma, which now has a 1.5km concrete road, the people said they were overwhelmed with joy.
The traditional ruler, Chief King Abule, commended NDDC and the administration of President Jonathan for touching the lives of the people, while his counterpart in Ikebiri, Chief Francis Ododo, lauded NDDC for the gesture.
The people of Agiama kingdom in an address signed by their acting traditional ruler, Chief M. E. Engman and 15 other community leaders while thanking NDDC urged other agencies of government to emulate the Commission.
