Few days after the Akwa-Ibom State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio described the NDDC under Dr. Christian Oboh as working, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Niger Delta, Senator James Manager says from available evidence and interaction the Board is on track.
To this end, Senator Manager has solicited the support and cooperation of stakeholders to enable the Board, achieve set objectives.
He made the plea in a chat with newsmen shortly after monitoring projects being executed by the NDDC and the Ministry of Niger Delta in Rivers, Bayelsa and Delta States as part of the Committee’s oversight function.
Turning to youths and women at the Koko site of the NDDC initiated Ogheye – Koko – Escravos Road project in Delta State, Senator Manager said “you need the road, so, cooperate with NDDC and the Contractor to enable them go ahead with this project”.
The Chairman who commended the commitment and passion of the Oboh led NDDC team added “from all available evidence, they mean well, under Dr. Oboh’s leadership there is a flurry of construction activities going on in the three States of the Niger Delta so far visited”.
On his part, the Managing Director, Dr. Christian Oboh disclosed that the Commission was pursuing the delivery of on-going projects and would award new ones where necessary.
“We have seen the magnitude of projects going on, what we need now are sustainable efforts and funding to deliver”. The NDDC Boss said.
Continuing, he remarked that the Commission also needed the Communities to succeed, adding “where the Contractors are working, we need your co-operation, when the Contractor is doing the wrong thing; we need the Communities to tell us.
The committee accompanied by Chairman of the Board, Dr. Tarilah Tebepah, Managing Director, Dr. Christian Oboh and some Board members had visited Governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State, Governor Henry Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State and Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State where the Board was advised to embark on more regional projects.
