Managing Director of the NDDC, Dr Christian Oboh has called on the banking sector to join hands with the Commission in the task of developing the Niger Delta region.
Dr Oboh made the call when officials of the United Bank For Africa Plc led by the Group Managing Director, Mr. Philips Oduoza called on him in the office.
He stated that the NDDC recognizes the critical role of the banking sector in nation building, and will be willing to collaborate with banks ready to mobilize funds for meaningful projects in the region.
“You are our major partner, for us to succeed, we need you seriously, we will like to partner with you, we are looking forward to having UBA name side by side with NDDC in most of our projects’ Oboh said.
The NDDC Chief Executive Officer remarked that no single service provider can solve the problems of the Niger Delta alone but with the joint efforts of all of us the challenges would be surmounted. “There is an enormous challenge in this region, and the funds available may not be enough, so the collaboration of off stakeholders are needed “he said.
He said the Commission was worried by the altitude of some of the banks towards releasing money to contractors for projects execution adding “in the next few days we will like to meet with such banks because we have a marching order to clean up all projects that are ongoing”.
Earlier the UBA Group Managing Director, Mr. Philips Oduoza had promised that the bank will always share in the aspirations of the NDDC in bringing about the desired change in the region.
“We will like to work with you as far as the contractors are concerned, we will come up with a modem that will assist in the quick and rapid delivery of services.
Mr. Oduoza agreed that there has been a disconnect between the bank, contractors and NDDC, but promised that the gap will be bridged immediately.
