Dr. Akwagaga Enyia was born February 2, 1962 in Port Harcourt and had her primary education in Sudan Interior Mission Primary School, Kano as well as Ebenezer Primary School, Akure between 1969 and 1974. From 1974 to 1979 she was at Fiwasaiye Girls Grammar School, Akure and Federal Government College, Jos. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science, Zoology from the University of Port Harcourt in 1983. She also has Master of Philosophy and Doctorate degrees in Marine Biology from the River State University of Science and Technology.
She was at various times a Science Tutor, Senior Aquaculturist and Zonal Research Officer with the Rivers State Agricultural Development Programme before joining the Oil Mineral Producing Areas Development Commission, OMPADEC, as Assistant Director, Fisheries in 1993. She served briefly as Acting Director, Agriculture and Fisheries from 1995 to 1996. She was appointed into NDDC in 2001 and was Acting Director, Environmental Protection and Control from July 2001 to June 2002. In March 2003 she became Deputy Director, Environmental Protection and Control and remained in that position till June 2007. From June 2007 till March 2010, she was Deputy Director, Agriculture and Fisheries.
Now a substantive Director, she has been in charge of the Agriculture and Fisheries Directorate since April 2010. She is a member of the Fisheries Society of Nigeria, Environmental Society of Nigeria and Society of Petroleum Engineers International.
